The Mod Squad – Live in Whanganui!
Back by popular demand—and with hair slightly shorter and jokes slightly older—The Mod Squad are dusting off their flares for a special one-off show this Mother’s Day!
Born & raised in Invercargill, Nick Tansley was a full time entertainer since the day he left school, and made his way to Wellington in the early 80s to play cabarets in Lower Hutt and at Wellington’s legendary venue The Pines, before becoming The Capital’s best-loved radio personality. His spontaneous wit and jovial personality made him one of the most in-demand MCs in the country, and he hosted several television shows during the 80s and 90s.
A consummate frontman and keyboard wizard, he started The Mod Squad around 1990, quickly recruiting guitarist Andrew London who had just moved down from Whanganui. With Nick’s media contacts and a repertoire of sure-fire party hits from the 60s and 70s, the band had more work than it could handle. The pace was too much for the bass player who pulled out, at which point Andrew was able to pull in old friend and fellow Whanganui boy Danny Fearn. The two had played together in the 80s at Whanganui’s Fosters tavern.
The trio still play occasionally when the opportunity arises and have agreed to come together in Whanganui for an afternoon at Heritage House on 11th May.
It’s $40.00 for the show AND coffee & Tea AND cake…and it’s Mother’s Day! So bring you-know-who!
Expect a toe-tapping, hip-swaying set of vintage gold from ABBA, John Denver, Michael Jackson, The Little River ban , Tom Jones and the Doobie Brothers and more! Think cheesy disco, sunny pop, and groovy country rock—all played with a wink and a smile.
Mum deserves more than just socks this year! And remember: flares are optional, but enthusiasm is mandatory.
Groovy, baby!
