Description

Greetings friends, Just letting you know a little more about the newly formed Te Awa Dub Club. It's truly exciting to be working with two of the best reggae people in Aotearoa, Bigbada BOOM Sound System and Naram T Langford. Ariki Brightwell (seen here at Whanganui awa with Señor Bambu) is a brilliant and respected visual artist who has also brought her super-creative wahine toa presence to reggae sound system activity in Aotearoa. Ariki aka Queen Big Punch and her own custom-built (and decorated) heritage-component sound, Bigbada BOOM offers a musical experience like no other. Many fans across the motu have enjoyed her patented selection of dynamic reggae with emphasis on roots and dub as well as classic boss sounds...all fed through the ground-quaking analogue marvel that is the Bigbada BOOM set. The other remarkable member of Te Awa Dub Club is Naram T Langford who's known as New Zealand's own globally-recognised reggae/dub multi-instrumentalist and producer. Very much in demand, Naram has worked with leading Jamaican artists and carved out a reputation for some of the toughest new rhythms in the highly competitive international reggae scene. Many of his tracks have reached the world via the excellent Raglan-based label, Red Robin Records. Drawing inspiration from the digital wave that swept through reggae in the mid-80s, Naram T Langford also brings a passion for old school roots music that remains eternally strong in Aotearoa. He plays with the veteran Whanganui roots reggae band, Roots Provider and produced their self-titled debut album in 2023. Te Awa Dub Club will debut with a night of maximum reggae goodness at Porridge Watson, Drews Avenue, Whanganui on May 11, 2024.
