Description

Under far-right Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli military has killed at least 36,000 Palestinians, destroyed over 70 percent of civilian infrastructure, and dropped more bombs on Gaza than were dropped in Germany during World War II.  And yet, U.S. leaders invited Netanyahu to give a joint address to Congress on July 24. It is utterly shameful. Netanyahu is a war criminal overseeing this genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians — there is no good reason for him to be given this platform.

“Pitiful in the face of genocide” – yes that’s our government. It still hasn’t even reached first base in responding to the industrial scale slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza. First base would be to condemn Israel and call for an immediate permanent ceasefire.  Join us and let your feelings be known to all about this genocide on steroids.

We need to challenge government MPs in National, New Zealand First and Act.  If you come across information with details of where any of these MPs will be for speaking or have meeting engagements then please contact us urgently so we can organise to protest and challenge them.

And please mark your calendar for the National Rally for Palestine, Thursday 27 June, Wellington.

NEWSFLASH!!!!

Urgent: Palestine needs your help!

This morning Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa sent the government a “letter of demand” over its complicity with Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza.

With this letter we are signalling our intention to pursue legal accountability for the government, and key government ministers, for their roles in failing to uphold New Zealand’s legal responsibilities under the Genocide Convention which requires the government to take action to “prevent and punish the crime of genocide”.

New Zealand is a signatory to the Genocide Convention and we also have wider responsibilities under international humanitarian law – in particular the Fourth Geneva Convention – which deals with responsibility for civilians living under military occupation.

“From the outset the government has failed to take even the most basic steps to pressure Israel to end its genocidal war against Palestinians” says PSNA National Chair John Minto. “We haven’t condemned Israeli actions nor the industrial-scale slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza”

We acknowledge the government has described the war as a “catastrophe” and has criticised Israel’s attack on Rafah – but has not followed through with any meaningful steps to hold Israel to account.

We believe it is time to take meaningful steps to hold Israel to account. The letter lists the areas where our government has failed to act in upholding its legal responsibilities. To ensure our government understands that New Zealanders want them to be taking more meaningful steps, PSNA has released the letter publicly on Thursday 20 June 2024. We are inviting organisations and individuals to support the demands listed in the letter here: “letter of demand”

Before deciding what further steps we will take we will wait for the government’s response which we have requested by 18 July.
